Sometimes it feels like I am more in love with the idea of getting into a nursing school because it has become so competitive and everyone wants it, that I am not sure if I will actually feel the same excitement once I start my BSN program. How do you train your mind to remember the competition is over, nursing school is a reality and you have to focus on learning the skills to pass the program and exams. It is about becoming a nurse, not getting into nursing school.

I'm not sure but I often feel like I get way ahead of my sef sometimes and need to live in the here and now more. I'm in my third semester of pre requistes and think all the time about the career path I will take when I finally become a Nurse. Where I will work, what field, specialties etc...

I just want to get into the program. I will worry about everything else after I get that darn acceptance letter. :)

I felt a certain sense of "ok, accomplished that goal," once I received my acceptance letter. But it was quickly replaced with a whole new list of things to do and goals to accomplish. I'm sure you'll find the same. Plus, nursing school is fun because you get to start applying all of that pre-req knowledge towards real life stuff. It's a whole new, and better, ball game.

Don't think of it that way. The competition is really only beginning, and the small things you will triumph over in nursing school will mean so much more than just the fact that you got in. Sure, you don't have to beat anyone else out but you are competing with yourself to be the best you can be. That is much more fulfilling, I think.

lol Trust me, when you get that "you've been accepted into our nursing program" You will immediately dive into a whole different goals, like Ok gotta purchase my scrub, dosage calculation etc...your brain will automatically take you to a whole different level. Thats not a thing to worry about, human brain does that for us. And oh, you will only work hard to pass your nursing school exams and get licensured, it wont be about competing with other students.

I think you'll figure it out. 2 years ago, I was in a writing class with a woman who had been accepted into the nursing program at the school and she turned it down due to a health crisis with a family member. The year I got into nursing school, I heard her name called (she was accepted a 2nd time) and she did not show up to the orientation or nursing school. Then in June, when the Fall 2011 students got there notifications and came for orientation, I heard her name called again. Again, she was not there. If you don't want to go to nursing school after you get an acceptance letter, do everybody a favor and turn it down right away so that the next in line can get a little prep time to get their life in order. If you are still up for something way more challenging that the pre and co-requisites, jump in with both feet.
