  1. I’m in the program now just started in Spring my email is [email protected] hit me up my name is Grace
  2. i work at cincy childrens (non nursing related). I have asked around the nurses what programs they went to and all I have heard so far is christ college of nursing, cincinnati state, University of cincinnati (where I attend), NKU, Thomas Moore, Miami U, OH state and other big universities from other states. They prefer BSN grads now. I havent heard anything at all from beckfield or hondros. Anything is possible as long as you complete your bsn you can get hired. They are requiring all the nurses to have a bsn.
  3. I attend the university of cincinnati bsn program at the main campus before accepting my spot there i looked at raymond walters. there is a 2 year wait. I was supposed to start clincals this fall but instead got admitted into the bsn program so I took that. I also got accepted to the christ college of nursing which has no waiting list. I only know of those as well as good sam, cincinnati state and sinclair which also have long waiting lists.
  4. I am so happy for us both! I feel so proud to be able to represent minorities in nursing!
  5. I have been in school since 2006. I got admitted to a BSN program. I have always earned good grades and have always been able to work a lot of hours and do other things while taking classes. Maybe because the classes were nothing like what I am getting ready to embark on. I have to support myself and help my sister out with bills. I am thinking about quitting my CNA job in January because it is 7pm to 7 am. It takes me 2 hrs each way to get back and forth and I ride the bus. This is the first time I will be taking 15 credit hours or more. I am not that good with science and math. I tend to also not pick up skills as fast as others. I am very shy and I need to take my time reading to understand things. My family does not support my decision of leaving the job. They say I am selfish, nothing in life comes easy and there are people who go to school and work. I truly hate the commute for this job and I can't stay up at work then I get home and I don't get much sleep. I hate the fact that I have to leave my house at 530 to get to work on time and when I get off work I have to sometimes wait a hour for the bus and I get home close to 11 if its a weekend. Or I get home at 9 am during the weekdays. I do not have money for a car because I have to pay rent and save up for school. I just honestly don't think I will be able to keep this job which is 3 hours a week and do nursing school. I saw my upcoming schedule and I saw I have classes at different times 9 am, 12 pm, or 4 pm. I have to manage time to get sleep, class, study and work. If I have class at 9 am I would be late. I just don't know how to keep explaining it to my family I do not want to quit but I need to focus on school and I am not happy where I am working at. Plus I don't want to risk failing school. They say I need to try out and then if my grades fall and I can't handle it then go part time.
  6. I had orientation for my BSN program in Cincinnati, OH. There were 184 students accepted. Out of all the students only about 12 were from a minority group. I was actually surprised because I heard it usually don't be any more than 5. I was glad. Can anyone share how diverse is their program?
  7. Sometimes it feels like I am more in love with the idea of getting into a nursing school because it has become so competitive and everyone wants it, that I am not sure if I will actually feel the same excitement once I start my BSN program. How do you train your mind to remember the competition is over, nursing school is a reality and you have to focus on learning the skills to pass the program and exams. It is about becoming a nurse, not getting into nursing school.
  8. Hi, I am in a BSN program set to start actual nursing classes in January. I just started a STNA job (CNA) in a women's dementia nursing home floor. I am really bad at it. This is my first week on the floor and I will be working full time 3 days a week. I slow everyone down. I took the class 2 years ago and I do not seem to remember anything. I also have a hard time understanding the residents and getting them dressed and changed when they become combative. I am lost on everything!! It is so brand new to me like I never took the class. I really love the fact that I can help them but sometimes I feel like I am not because they can tell I am struggling to put on a diaper or put on a gown. I would be in a room for 20 minutes while the other nurse aides are done putting everyone to bed and giving showers. I feel so frustrated and doubtful I will be able to do well in clinicals and will not be able to handle school and work since I need more time than others to pick up skills. any advice???
  9. Hello, I been working at this healthcare facility for about 2 weeks now. 3 days a week. Today was the first day I was fully on my own. I will be working in the women's dementia unit. I am really bad at it. I seem to be slowing everyone down. I took the cna class back in 2009 and just now found a job. It seems like I forgot everything I learn. I get so frustrated because sometimes I have to keep turning the residents over and over to even get a diaper on correctly and is still looks bad. I am working 3rd shift and it takes me two hours to get from and to work. All this is making me dislike this new job because I feel like my situation will not improve. Ive never worked this type of hours and I can't seem to stay awake. I am also worried I will have a hard time in nursing school and I got accepted into a BSN program. I just can't seem to get it together and I pick up things slow. Sometimes the resident needs to help me out because I get so lost I don't know what to do. I move really slow and it takes me for ever to do a procedure. I really need to get the most out of my experience as an aide because I will feel like a failure if I can't even be a cna and I am trying to become a RN. It has really opened my eyes to how hard and how serious taking care of another person is. I plan on going PRN when schools starts back in January because I don't think I will be able to leave for work at 530 to get there at 7 pm and getting off at 7 am leave and get home at 845 am and have class at 9 up until 3 and go back to work. Even though I have 4 off days, I just am not sure I can do both especially since I am a slow learner. Can any CNA who was bad in the beginning help me out? I also need advice on how to deal with combative and confused residents.
  10. demi07, how has your experience with the program gone so far? where have you done clinicals?
  11. thanks, and I understand about taking that hour commute. I also got accepted to raymond walters but I decided not to because it was too far out for me. So I chose main campus. What other schools have you been looking at?
  12. thanks for replying. I didnt get accepted right out of high school. I had to do a year of pre nursing so now it would just be nursing courses alone.
  13. The program is 1 full time year of pre nursing pre reqs, then 3 full time years of nursing couse work. It is not year round, there are breaks between quarters. Classes have to be taken as outlined so there is no chance of accelerating your graduation.
  14. I just got into the BSN program at the University of Cincinnati, I would like to know how different is it compared to a ADN program and any advice you might have for me. thanks.
  15. Hi demi07, I am 2 years late, lol. I got accepted for fall of 2011. I had a 3.58 and the gpa cut off for the main campus was a 3.51 so I thankfully made the cut. Can you tell me about the program? How hard is it? Are you able to work? Do you still have your books, what can of supplies are needed? How much money have you spend on supplies? How big are the classes? How many students have dropped? Where have you done clinicals? I also heard they have a coop program, sorry I have so many questions thanks.
