At yesterdays WH news conference.Trump blames blue states for coronavirus death toll -- making pandemic political, trying to pit Red VS blue states for election votes.
Quote
At a White House news conference Wednesday, the president argued that the United States was handling the virus well, compared with other nations "despite the fact that the blue states had tremendous death rates." He went on: "If you take the blue states out, we're at a level that I don't think anybody in the world would be at. We're really at a very low level but some of the states — they were blue states, and blue-state management." Translation: Blame the Democrats, not Trump's now-revealed deliberate downplaying of the virus's deadliness

QuoteIf you take the blue states out, we’re at a level that I don’t think anybody in the world would be at.
I watched the interview where he said this. What does this stupid sentence even mean? Let’s for one minute forget about the obvious lack of empathy for those who have died from Covid infections, how does this sentence make grammatical sense? What is that verb tense? Conditional? Hypothetical? We don’t have to guess where the world is at. We know. There’s no need for him to think about this. He can look up the numbers.
If I counted correctly, eleven out of the twenty states with the highest death rate per 100,000, voted for him in 2016.
These twenty states currently have death rates per 100,000 ranging between 50 and 181. They are all higher than France, one of the hardest hit countries in Europe.

But why the heck does it even matter if it’s ”blue” states or ”red” states who are at the top of the list. Americans are dying. It’s not Democrats and Republicans who are dying. It’s Americans.
Imagine if President Bush would have said if it wasn’t for those ATC and airport security staff at those airports Logan, Dulles and Newark Liberty in Democratic states, 9/11 wouldn’t have happened. They would have carted him off to the looney bin and his utterings would have been universally and forcefully condemned.
When did it become acceptable to speak so flippantly and callously about the deaths of your own countrymen?
Answer: It isn’t.
But still.. here we are in 2020 and you have a President who speaks this way and a sizeable portion of your population who appear to accept the way he speaks about your fellow Americans.
