How do they rotate your days off?

Published

I was just wondering how days off are rotated in and out in your facilities?

Where I am we work 4 on 2 off so we don't get any weekend time off for 6 weeks, and when it does roll around most of the time it seems to be our on call weekends so we end up working anyways.

So, how often do you guys get days off and how do your rotations work? Do you have set days off, work 12 hour shifts, etc before you are rotated into a weekend off?

Thanks!

Most of the places where I have worked in the distant past, and the present, allow for self scheduling. I work every other weekend. The ability to utilize the self scheduling in order to get in the amount of hours I am required to work in a two week pay period seems to work fairly smoothly. I am an 8 hour employee, and I usually schedule myself for two to three days in a row, and then two to three days off in a row. It works very well for me.

My floor is self scheduling, 12 hour shifts. Most of us work our 3 days in a row, but some of the older nurses don't like to. Typically I work Sun, Mon, Tue with the occasional Saturday thrown in there, giving me 3-4 days off. Most of my coworkers have 4 days off at a time too.

I also have self scheduling. You have to work everyother weekend. I like two days on, one off, one on and three off.

My unit is also self scheduling. I am required to work two weekend shifts and one Friday shift per month. I prefer either 3 in a row or 2 on, 1 off, 1 on, and 3 off (which one just depends on what's going on outside of work).

We work rotating shifts, DDNN (12 hrs each, 7:30-7:30) with 5 days off, with you sleeping a better portion of your first day of those 5 days (because technically you get off at 7:30am on your first day off).

So weekends we get off about every 3rd set- we'll get 2 off in a row, then work the next 3, etc... or vice versa (if you work over the weekend, you have most of the week off)

Before we started "re-doing" things we were on a set schedule. The first week we would work Tues, Wed, Thursday and off the weekend returning Monday and then off tues wed thursday and work the weekend. I thought it worked well but a lot of people complained about having to come into work just 1 day (Monday). Some people (myself included) have been scheduled wednesday, thursday friday and then don't return until the following thursday, friday, saturday. I like this schedule much better as it allows for a nice long 6 days off and we still get our hours in.

I work full time 8 hour days. I work every other weekend, and have every other tuesday, and every other friday off.We have 2 week pay periods. If a holiday falls on your scheduled day off, you get it off. Otherwise it depends on who has the highest seniority and requests it off! I have had this same schedule and love it!! We put in for vacations for the year in March. We are able to get vacation time thru out the year as well, but putting in early makes it easier to fill in the schedule for long vacations. Only 2 of us LPN's are full-time. The part time ones also have a set schedule- but they have first oppurtunity to fill in on there days off! Very low turn over rate in nurses and aids where I work. Most of us have been there 10 plus years..

We have set days and times (8 hr shifts) and every other weekend and every other holiday to work.

Four days on two days off so at least you get a weekend at least once a month

every 3rd week i get a weekend off. usually i work 3 or 4 days on, with 1 or 2 days off (8 hour shifts), and it keeps rotating that way each week.

Let me start by saying I don't like the way scheduling is done at all, especially since I work night shift, FT, five 8 hour shifts a week. We get every other weekend off, which is the only time we have 2 nights off together. The rest of the schedule will be 2-4 nights on, 1 off. There is no method to the madness, schedule is computer generated, no "regular" time off.

I am a true night shifter, have no desire to work days but the way they schedule is a challenge. I would love to work 12 hour shifts!
