Just like anywhere else in professional adult education, you log your hours in an honor system where you attest to the accuracy of the hours you logged and the academic institution trusts and expects your honesty in return. There are checks and balances that can serve as an eye watching you in this instance, one, clinical faculty from the school can sometimes conduct unannounced visits or two, your preceptor will make sure that you comply with the required hours and will serve as the link to the faculty as far as the quantity and quality of your clinical performance.
I've precepted recently and this is what many schools are using now
We had to put our hours into typhon prior to the days. It was a fully brick and mortar program so I don't know how online ones do it. All our clinical sites were pretty close to the school. preceptors had to sign off hours and such also.
Yeah, I don't even think all of our professors are instate. It's completely online and we have to find our own preceptor. Luckily, the psychiatrists at my place of employment are willing to help.

Out of curiosity, I'm curious how programs actually KNOW that you have completed the requirement. Is there formal paperwork your preceptor signs?
