Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the advice and tips. I recently took the NCLEX, on 10/4/05 and failed. 265 questions is what I received. My Candidate Performance Report states "Near the Passing Standard" for each of the 8 NCLEX components. I thought that I did a decent job studying the first time. Can anyone give me any pointers for the second time out? I have used Saunder's comprehensive review. I appreciate the help.Scott

Sorry that you did not make it the first time.
But how were you using the book to prepare? Were you concentrating on the book, or the CD? How many quesitons did you do before the exam?
If I know this, then it will be easier for me to help you pass this next time.:wink2:

you should try the kaplan review course. it does cost quite a bit, but it is well worth it. a lot of people have had good luck with it.
Studying for the first NCLEX here is what I did: used the Saunder's comprehensive review book-completed questions from both the CD and the book-focused mainly on the various physical areas on the CD (cardio, renal, gi) and completed about three Mosby online Cats. In total, I completed somewhere around 900-1000 questions. I scored an 82% on two of the Mosby cats and a 80% on the other one. Thanks for the help.

maybe my story can help you a little. here it is here, well part of it anyway. https://allnurses.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122880&highlight=thatoneguy
i did end up counting my cards, finial tally= 2,651 cards with 2-5 questions on each card. i so over studied. but feel great about it. on question 56 while taking the boards i knew i had this test wierd. my focus was mainly on patho and chemistry. if you live near L.A. california i can let you use all the stuff i have and used. its a lot i have done its most likely way more than anyone would need to pass but i feel i gainned so much knowledge that anything going on in the body i will be able to figure it out without to much difficulty. it was hard to start studying like i did because so much info. but one page at a time not thinking about time just making sure i did not miss anything , no matter how small it may have seemed to me. so let me know if i can help you with anything.
Did you do a review of the rationales with each and every answer? I highly recommend this so that you see what they are looking for. Both of rthe correct answers, as well as the ones that were not chosen to see why they weren't.
I also recommend that you do at least 3000 to 4000 questions before taking the exam. 1000 just isn't quite enough in my opinion.

Suzanne,
I am sure I did over 4000 questions before taking the NCLEX-RN and I still failed. At 75 questions on top of that.
Now I am not sure what to do. I did the Lippencott cards, The Princeton Review, The Saunders Review, The ERI review as Mosby's Review and the NCLEX Exam Cram. I studied using the computer as well as did questions and did the rationales for the answers to the questions.
I am not sure what to do at this point. I just found out yesterday that I did not pass. The only thing I can think of doing now is to take Kaplan.
I am not sure what to do know. I am so frustrated because I feel like all my studying did not pay off.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1. Where did you do most of your questions from?
2. Did you just do the questions or go thru each and every rationale? Or just the ones that you missed. You need to review the rationales for each and every answer give, both the correct choices and incorrect choices.
I only like the rationales and their answers from the Saunder's book, unfortunately have found errors in some of the others.
3. How many questions were you doing per day?

i say try what i did follow the link.
Thank you all for your suggestions.
I did all of the questions, answered them and reviewed the rationale for EACH one even if I got it right. I did 100 questions a day 5 days a week for 12 weeks. I had a whole study plan. I used the Saunders book for test taking strategies and the questions that came along with it. I did most of my questions from the Saunders and the Mosby books. I also did a ton of questions from the Exam Cram. I did all 1,250 questions from that book.
I will try your suggestions.
Thanks!
My suggestion is to use only the Saunders. Their rationales are the best, hands down in my opinion.
Not sure if you have sent me your e-mail address or not............please do not post it here.
Did you get quite a few questions on herbal medications by any chance? Percentage of priority questions on your exam?
