How did you pass the ANCC certification exam?

Published

I've heard Margaret Fitzgeralds stuff is the best but seems like ANCC's stuff would focus more on the test content. I just graduated with my MSN FNP and want to get certified on the first try. Any suggestions?

Mickey4, you can take the AANP exam twice in any one year.

Kangoshi, I took the ANCC board certification exam, and the changes were announced on their website. They had a really nice 2-page outline showing the areas that would be covered and the the percentage of the exam that was based on each each (I think they even specifically stated how many questions each area would have). I realize this isn't probably pertinent because you asked about the AANP exam, but you might check AANP's website. Best wishes.

KANGOSHI: the overhaul was done to the ANCC not the AANP! Good Luck

How do you choose which exam to take???

How do you choose which exam to take???

I took the ANCC exam because: a) I missed the registration window for the AANP exam and b) Some job listings in my area specified the ANCC FNP cert, not AANP (although they both are supposed to be acceptable). It seems in my area, the ANCC cert. is more widely recognized.

I passed my ANCC exam today!!!!:)

Congratulations, Dojo2, I am so happy for you - I was hoping you would post tonight. It is such a relief to be done with it, isn't it?! Did you feel pretty confident when you were taking it? I was not all that confident during my test - I thought it was a tough exam.

Yes, it was a very tough exam. I studied several weeks, but still thought the exam was a real challenge.

KELLYNP- I recieved your message, but for some reason I can not reply.

Hello all!

Question for Sandnnw:

For the Fitzgerald review content, do you mean taking the review course or using the review book (Nurse practitioner certification questions & review).

Has anyone heard of the Barbara Todd review book? Any good????

Thanks for all the posts. I am just getting started on this whole process, so all your input has really helped. I will post more as I go through my journey....

The book and CDs. I listened to them over and over again...did not take any course. Made tons of flashcards in my weak areas. Took them everywhere.

MistieRN,

I've been thinking about you - I think today was your "original" test date (I don't know if you went through with the exam or if you changed the date). Did you test today, and if so, how did it go? :)
