I am planning on making the switch in about 2 years or so. I have asked this question before and received a great answer but I feel as if I need to be more specific.
What is the process for switching form RC to AD?
Is it essentially starting the commissioning process over again?
Is it still the "hurry up and wait" game that it was for RC?
Do you need to repeat OBLC seeing that AD class is longer than RC?
Any of you who have been through this.... thank you in advance for your responses.

The process can be very easy or hard depending on your obligation left to your unit and then dependent on your unit's desire to release you. The ability to switch is easy - but at the same time your current unit has a say as it directly affects them and the commitment you have with that unit. You probably have an idea of how they would feel about it. Depending on your relationship you could talk it out to get a feel for whats going on. From there it is more of talking with an active duty recruiter and getting a 4187 and then having your losing unit bless off on it. You shouldn't have to redo your OBC... then again I don't know if you are trying to switch branches... you should retain your rank - same unknown.

Does this factor in? If loan repayments etc have been paid out, does not your new time in Active Component serve to fill your commitment? Or do you owe that time to your RC TPU (if so assigned)?
Thanks 66HM5
I don't know.....it seems like HRC doles out the $$$, not our units........
Good questions......so, what made you decide to go active? Just curious...

A lot of things really. I have family that is currently Active Army.... (My father was Active Navy).... some personal things factor in...I need a change from my current position in nursing... I need a new challenge... a sense of service.... a supportive spouse (who I think would like to travel on the government's dime :) )... a lot of things....I feel as if this is something I should have done in my late teens or early 20's and never did... I sort of feel like I am getting my feet wet in the Reserve and I am more of a "take the plunge", "all or nothing" kind of guy.... It also seems there is greater opportunity for a "Military" nurse Active vs Reserve with most of the good slots for training etc seeming to go first to Active personal.
Of course I have a personal need to finish my degree program before crossing over.
Things could change, but I like to plan ahead and have a direction to travel.
