How do you obtain a license after certification?

This may be a stupid question. I am taking my ANP exam at the end of the week(ANCC), and was wondering if anyone knows what happens next--am I automatically licensed? After passing the NCLEX my license came in the mail.

It's a very complicated process in a lot of states, and confusing as to which agency does exactly what. So don't feel dumb! Good luck!
