How does Nursing School compare to the pre-requisite classes?

Published

I'm just trying to get a feel for how difficult NS will be... How did you do in NS compared to your pre-req's? And it how were the classes similar/different?

when we were given an exam in a pre req class, it was all about memory retention, they wanted to see how much of the informaiton the students remembered. in nursing school the way they ask the questions is about the information we learned and how we apply it in to a scenario. yes, there are a few questions about what's a normal range or bp, etc, but for the 95% of the exam is applied knowledge on a given circumstance.

hope this helps a bit better.

Nursing school is much more time consuming and a bigger commitment than the pre-reqs. There is also more pressure to do well, in my program falling below a 78% is failing. The stress of not wanting to be kicked out after all the hard work it took to get in is the hardest part for me. As far as the material is concerned I actually don't find it to be too much harder. It is critical thinking as opposed to memorization as the OP said which I like better. Nursing school is very interesting and fun. In cliniclas there is always something new to learn and I retain information better by actually doing it/seeing it myself so that part makes everything click for me. Have fun and good luck on your nursing school journey! :redpinkhe

Personally, I didn't find nursing school to be particularly challenging beyond the relentless pace. Conceptually, it was not difficult.

I personally found pre-reqs to be more difficult. However, NS was much more time-consuming. The content in NS is not hard to grasp, what's hard is all the papers, care plans, and busywork bs!
