How much time do you spend outside of class per week studying/writing care plans, etc. for nursing school?

I think 2-3 hours a day is a good goal. I usually crammed for two days before each test though. Care plans - it used to take me from 3 in the afternoon until about 10 at nite to get the info from the hospital, meet my patient, and to finish writing the care plan and drug cards. Then another 4 hours at least to finish it after clinicals. But our school required a lot of info in the care plan - you would have a 1/2 - 3/4 inch "book" to turn in when you were finished, complete with care plans + evaluations, drugs cards, assessment sheet, patho systems sheet, written patho of each disease process complete with nursing interventions, written paper on each "procedure" including lab tests, x-rays ect. complete with nursing interventions, orem sheet, written head to toe assessment, and a journal of the experience (am I forgetting something? -probably). Hopefully your school does not require such a large care plan and you can spend less time on it. We weren't allowed to make copies from books either - everything had to be typed in APA Format.
Good luck -

I would guessimate 25-30 hours a week outside of classes. Of course there's all different levels of study within that time. Serious study (when I have quiet time with no interuptions), light study - like re-reading notes (when I'm waiting to pick up the kids from school), listening to taped lectures (before bed, but hey, maybe some of it sneaks in subliminally!), and spare moments (isn't that what they made note cards for? :) )
I guess it would be easier to calculate the hours that I don't study! :chuckle

This summer semester I'm taking patho and chemistry. I usually study after class for 5 hrs. each day from monday through friday, and on the weekends it is around 7 hrs per day.
But it seems I need more time than that, because for some reason I cannot get the chemistry part
Maybe because I really dislike chemistry....so if anybody can refer good website regarding chemistry please let me know about them. :)
