I recently received a job offer at a local hospital for a PRN position (YAY!) and they want me to start right away. Currently, I'm working 36-52 hours in PDN every week. I want to cut back to one or two shifts a week, how much notice should I give? We mail in our next months schedule by the 10th so they already have my Feb availability. Should I wait and work all of January and all of February? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

The sooner you let them know, the sooner they can deal with the situation. You may find that they can accommodate losing you earlier if you go ahead and tell them now. They may already have somebody that is hurting for hours and can start immediately. Ask them to get your replacement as soon as possible.

The sooner the better and at least two weeks. If they can accommodate your schedule sooner, great. Good Luck!

If you gave them the hours that you've been working as your Februrary availability and you value your employer and their opinion of you, I would try to get through February. Time flies, it will be over before you know it. However, if you know that there are other nurses who would like to work more hours, then I would talk to your manager and point this out and ask if they could possibly accommodate you sooner than the end of February.
