Hi, I work in south texas as an LVN in GI Lab licensed for 25yrs I am now

making $16.84 an hour which is a $2.64 cut from what I was making in the cardiology departmennt

doing echos and stress tests I had to leave the Cardiology department so I could attend night classes toward my RN they would not let me off my on call schedule during the week so I could better myself and be more employable for them Actually I understand they had no legal right to lower my salary but I didn't know that at the time....I had been working for this corporation for the past 14 + years and that is how they treated me.....

Sorry to blabber on but I am still so sensitive about it..

Because of nurse shortages, particularly in my area, there is alot of ot to be worked for those who are willing. Unfortunately the money is tempting and some people are overdoing it leading to increased illness/burnout, leading to more staff off, leading to more overtime!

(will see small increase for BSN--but not enough to cover the cost of schooling--only way this will benefit me is if I continue on my schooling)

Houston is not as bad as you think, actually the crime in Houston is much lower than in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, it was proven by an FBI report. There are some nice areas in Houston, myself I live in Fort Bend County and love it here, I would never live in the city :)

4. pay 30.00 hour, no medical benefits. I work 4 -12hour night shifts with every other weekend off. The nursing shortage is killing us though, too many patients and upper management not realistic in what is safe for patients on a cardiac floor.
