How much should I really be working during NP school?

Guys,

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment. I'm attending a program part-time (~6 credit hours/semester with less in the Summer). This semester I'm doing adv pathophys and assessment.

Currently I work M-F 9-5ish and just feel like I cannot read AND make notes on top of the assignments due each week. It's a job that I have had to wear many hats for and have no downtime to study while I'm there. I've asked to do four 10-hour days, but I'm not sure what will be enough. I've been on the lookout for psych jobs but they have been almost all full-time or far away.

Next semester I have adv pharm and pathopharm. Not sure I can really learn everything I need to know like this.

I'm worried because of benefits mostly, but certainly money too. I'm frustrated because many people say they work full-time at least till clinical. For me that will be next year with 1-2 days a week.

What have others done? How many credit hours were you taking? Any advice?

I am currently a full-time MSN-PMHNP student (all online), and I work for a nursing agency as a per diem nurse. I schedule my availability around my school schedule and my family's schedules. The pay is higher for agency nurses, so I can work less and make better pay. I currently pick up 2-3 shifts (8hrs each) each week.

Advanced patho was brutal. I took it alone because my mentor thought that would be the best for me. My classes are in 7 week blocks. Right now I am taking 2 classes so similar to your scenario ( minus advanced patho this sem) and defiantly has been like a full time job for me. I work part time 16 hours a week and still feel like this is an intense amount of work. My daughter is grown now so I have no kids at home and I feel the pinch even without the little ones at home so it is defiantly hard and right now you are in one of the hardest classes. In my opinion adv patho was the hardest class. Hang in there and reduce your work load if possible
