How many people had internships the summer before senior year of nursing school?

Published

I was just wondering how many people have/had nursing internships the summer before their senior year of nursing school? There are about 20 people in my class of about 70 that I know of, and what did you learn?

For those of you who didn't, what did/have you been studying or practicing skills over the summer?

I'm just curious because I feel like not having an internships I missed out on a lot of learning, what are your thoughts? Thanks everybody!!

I had an externship, which is the same as an internship, I guess.

I got to practice putting in foleys, IVs, etc. I got to practice my time management skills, a lot. I got some good tips/tricks for my nursing practice that I can't wait to use in clinicals coming up. I got to see how different nurses schedule their days and from that, I can use the best of the best to see what works for me this upcoming clinical. I was floated to a lot of different units so I got to see a lot of different stuff, which was pretty cool. Oh, and I got to make some great friends, one of which already recommended me for a job after school. All in all, it was GREAT experience!

I did. I'm pretty sure it fastracked me into a job after graduation.

I had an internship in a rural hospital. It was a great experience and I learned and did a lot! I helped in a couple of code blues and practiced a lot of my skills. Interning in a small hospital, you pretty much use all of the nursing skills your acquire in school because you don't have all of the access to certain things like you do in bigger hospitals. That hospital has all units into one basically. I also loved that things started to click for me like when patients would come in and explain symptoms and then being diagnosed, how all of that came together for me from my school knowledge... if that makes sense haha. I had a great time and recommend for upcoming senior nursing students! Or anyone
