I had been pretty shocked to hear some nurses have to pay for parking upward to hundreds of dollars a month. This just boggles my mind. I couldn't imagine my employer making me pay to park at my job.
So I was just curious how commen this is.
We have 4 local hospitals and you don't have to pay for parking at any of them. 2 of them have large parking garages for the employees that you badge in and out of.
The other 2 places don't have garages but you still don't have to pay.
I pay about $400/yr just to park. And then I have to take a shuttle bus to the hospital!
Yup, I had to pay $360 a year and take a bus some years back. The bus took about 25 minutes to get from parking lot to the building I worked in. In large University systems, paying for parking is the norm IME.

We have a complicated parking situation where I work.
$5/day shift to park in the shuttle lots. Then you have to take a shuttle to the hospital.
About $3-ish to park evening shift
$1.75 for nights and you can park at the actual hospital.
BUT they give you an unlimited use bus pass (can use even when not going to work) and will even provide you with a bicycle if you commit to riding it to work. For every day that you DON'T park in either the shuttle lots or at the hospital (if you're nights), they will ADD $3.25 to your paycheck. This also applies if you have a carpool instead of a single occupancy vehicle. So, if I wanted to drive on day shift and take the shuttle from my car, not only would I have to pay $5, I also wouldn't be getting that $3.25, so it's more like paying $8.25.
Complicated! They're all about trying to get you to "go green," etc.
