Just wondering what side of the nursing fence do you fall??? I am considering LPN school versus taking the ADN program since I am nearly 40 years old, husband, father of two, lots of bills, etc.,etc., etc.,.

LPN. Get your RN.

LPN. Get your RN.

I agree with tankity. I had LPN for almost 2 years first, but quickly realized that the RN/ADN was much more open for advancement, employment choices and of course higher salary. I have absolutely no regrets about going back and taking another year (in a very good commumity college program) to get my RN. I have had the RN for 12 years now. Have worked in Cardiac Stepdown, (visiting) Home Health/Hospice, Pediatric Private Duty, Agency Staffing, Hospital Case Management, and (currently) Medical Psychiatry (although I am able to float to other hospital units if I choose to). The last is for almost 5 years, and for the most part, I love it (working nights now too). My wife and I also co-own and co-manage (Administration level) 3 licensed Family Care Homes (for almost 2 years now).

Oh, and I have held middle management positions several times, but prefer not to be in that position (politics, etc.).

Good luck. Whatever you choose, you CAN do it!

Specializes in Intensive Care.

I am in my 3rd year of a 4 year BScN program. I have no regrets. More knowledge, more pay but yes.... more cost.

I'm an RN with a bachelor of science in Nursing having also completed 18 years in the Royal Australian Navy. J.R.

Specializes in Renal, Haemo and Peritoneal.
