How many healthcare providers?

Was just wondering howmany healthcare providers and what type are used based on total (camper and staff) number at camp.

We usually have 2 RN's, an industrial first aid attendant, a first aid (basic) assistant, and numerous life guards.

We have up to 400 campers at each camp and up to 200 staff. I am trying to convince the camp director that we need a 3rd RN.

We see over 200 patients per week not counting repeats or scheduled meds.

The RN positions are all voluntary.

Thanks for your help.

It does sound to me like you need a third RN, but any regulations would be based on your state. I don't think ACA has a standard for how many nurses are needed per camper/staff member.

Are the nurses working the appropriate number of hours? Your contract or state law may say that nurses work (for instance) eight hours per day, five days per week.

Oh, I just saw that you're in Canada--don't know anything about Canadian law or camp associations.

Over a third of the attendees are being seen in the clinic each week without counting the meds or repeats? Or am I reading this incorrectly?

We have just started keeping stats at the last camp of the summer. At the last camp I was at we saw 140 campers for injuries and prns (lots of upper resp infections). Campers seen by the first aid team are also included in these stats as often the RN's are doing followup with drsgs and prn's for pain. We saw 50 staff for various issues and then about 30 campers for reg meds. The 200 number didn't include any second visits. We also did not start keeping stats until the 2nd full day of camp. As this is only the second camp I have worked at I'm not sure how these numbers relate to other camps. This is a camp for normally healthy children (lol)

I analyzed my records one summer and came up with similar numbers--1/3 of campers coming to the health center. Some units (known as cabin groups at some camps) had much higher percentages than others. I swear, some of these kids decide that "going to the health center" is one of the camp activities, despite all my efforts to make it REALLY, REALLY BORING.
