How many days a week are classes (looking into Harrison)

Published

I am looking into schools in Indiana for nursing. I'm going for my LPN and later my BSN. I looked at Brightwood and class there is 6 hours a day 5 days a week. I can't work and do that at the same time. Not with 2 young kids. I asked a couple of nurses at work and they said they went to school 3-4 days a week around 3-5 hours for lecture and 6-12 for clinicals (depending on the semester for class and clinical length). The school the 2 nurses I asked went to is closed (MedTech). So what is your experience with nursing school and what school did you go to? I'm mostly looking for people in the Indy area since that is where I will be going. But any input is much appreciated.

Ivy tech is a better option.

Welcome to allnurses! :balloons:

You should expect nursing school to be at least the equivalent of a full-time job, whatever school you end up attending. It is v. challenging to work full-time while attending school (think about the challenges and effort involved in juggling two full-time jobs), although some people manage to do it. Lots of people work part-time while in school.

Whatever the school schedule says about number of days and hours required, keep in mind that there will always be, in addition to the published schedule, lab hours, clinical prep hours, and other time commitments that don't appear on the schedule. (Plus all the studying you'll need to do, but that you can at least do at home on your own schedule.) Also, class and clinical schedules often change from one term to another, which can make it difficult to maintain a job unless you have a really supportive and flexible employer.

Best wishes for your journey!
