How does an LPN relocate to a job in the UK or is this even possible

Published

Is it possible to get a job in the UK as an LPN of 8 years or do I have to have another degree. My husband will soon be stationed in the UK with the military and I am trying to figure out what options I will have with nursing if any.

Specializes in Advanced Practice, surgery.

I am afraid the NMC will not recognise LPN to allow you to register in the UK and there is no way without NMC registration you would be able to work as a nurse

Specializes in Spinal Cord injuries, Emergency+EMS.

the only thing i can think of is if the SoFA covering US forces in the UK allows you ( as a dependent) to work on base ( and therefore caring for US serving personnel and dependents) as an LPN without UK registration otherwise sorry,

You can try to register with the NMC for 140 pounds. From what I saw online they take nurses that have been trained outside the UK.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

NMC will accept overseas nurses as long as they meet requirements however as clearly stated on their website LPN is not accepted. The UK hasn't trained EN for a couple of decades

We will not accept your application if you are a second level nurse or the equivalent, for example an enrolled nurse, a licensed practical nurse, a vocational nurse, a state certified nurse, a nursery nurse, a nurse midwife technician, a nurse aid and so on.
