It can take anywhere from a few weeks to 18 mo ,I've had friends I met in recovery we all agree no time limit is safe

I'm not worried about safe...I just want to get a move on this. I didn't self report bc I've been to BON hearings in my state and there isn't a difference, it's one size fits all. I also didn't want to end up giving more information than they had. Waiting is the hard...

I personally heard back in 5 mo,a good friend in recovery that failed TPAPN didnt hear for 16 mo and had to restart program all over again

I reported my diversion in mid January to my employer...reported myself to my state's monitoring program immediately afterward, met with them within two weeks of being fired, had my contract offered to me February 4 and signed it, then heard from the state board several months later. At that time I was able to tell them I had already started a monitoring program so I had those few months under my belt instead of just waiting. Now I'll graduate in Feb instead of in May or June like I would if I had waited to hear from the board. I'm personally glad I self-reported.

It's difficult waiting. My lawyer and I have discussed the case extensively and agreed to wait to hear from the board because of how convoluted my case is (DEA and board involvement). I've been attending NA and counseling and we've agreed that if the DEA does not persue any charges then I will self report at six months if the board hasn't contacted me first. Its a mixed bag, I am very grateful for this time where I can just be with my family, reconnect, and build clean time. I honestly don't know how you all have managed getting clean, rebuilding your life, and delt with the board all at the same time. You are my heros! From my side it takes a lot of self management. I've been offered a nursing job (the nurse manager is aware it my situation) but I am not ready. I love nursing, and of course my minimum wage job doesn't quite pay the bills (it does pay for itself in the holistic healing it gives me). My sister asked me why I hadn't taken the nursing job yet and I responded that if I am not comfortable with my sobriety yet I have no buisness in nursing right now. Not to mention I am not ready to handle the idea of starting my job, then going before the board, then having to leave my job until the board feels I'm ready (the nurse manager says that she would keep me on no matter what). I am in no rush!

It took me 3 years to be ready. After that, 6 months of looking. My advice would be to take a job where narcs arent available like dialysis and ride through it. Its alot harder to get a job when everything is said and done and equally as hard for your employer to fire you. however, if you can afford to stay at home and you really aren't ready then let yourself heal first. Good luck.

Oh and my investigation took 3 years. The average is 12-24 months. Thats why I said work while you can and prove yourself. I heard from them almost exactly 3 months after the complaint.
