For those of you who completed an ADN program how long did it actually take to finish the degree?
My wife is thinking about attending one of these programs but a few people have suggested it will be more like 2 1/2 to 3 years including the prerequisites.
I had to take the following classes to apply for the two RN programs in my area:
Dmat 097
Dmat 098
Dmat 099
College Algebra
Statistics
English 1
Speech
Intro to psych
Developmental psych
Music appreciation
Biology
A&P 1
A&P 2
Microbiology
Pharmocology
Patho
Chemistry
End of life issues
Dosage Calculations
Spanish for medical professionals
Thats over 60 credit hours in pre reqs, and I may have forgotten a couple. Then I applied, and was rejected so I spend 6 months taking classes I didnt really need, and waiting. Now I am in the program, and have 11 months left till graduation. It took a while because there were so many pre reqs, and I am a single mom to boot. I think it will end up coming to about 5 years, and in the end I will have about 90 credit hours for an ADN. My best friend got a 4 year teaching degree and only has 30 more credit hours than I do.
umm... recently or back-in-the-day? back-in-the-day my school was easy to get into too. if you were accepted recently, does your school cost an arm and a leg? if recent and not too expensive, i can see a lot of students on this forum moving to oklahoma!!
i was accepted last august. its a state school. tuition and books together cost $2600 - $3000 (in state) / semester. there is a private school in okc that will take anyone with a 3.0 gpa or above but its costly!!!
OK, I have not finished....but, I earned a BE-EE (engineering) in 1984. I decided to do nursing while working FT. I took my pre-reqs (some were done 24 yrs ago) 2 a semester for a year. I took the NAT. Now.....I applied for the ASN at FCCJ....for a May start. I am taking to pre-reqs for the BSN or MSN programs to build for the future while waiting for the RN school to start in May. The FCCJ program is 4 semesters without a break.
I had planned to work and do the evening/weekend program (which would have been a killer!), but God had other plans. I will be laid off in 2 weeks. I have 1 grown child living at home to help with expenses and another moving home in May. ALL of us will be students and PT jobs and student loans will get us through.
All in all, it will have taken me 2.5 yrs to complete the program. For many folks it has a lot to do with how much you can handle at one time.
