I just started the EC program. I work full time and have a family, and dedicate as much time to studying as I can, but I feel so discouraged at times that I just can't dedicate enough time to studying as I'd like. I want my RN yesterday!
I have no prereqs either, so I have a lot of material to cover. How long did it take for those of you working FT with families to get your RN through EC?

I graduated with my LPN December 2003. I worked full time, I'm married w/no children and I graduated from Excelsior March 2006. I had to get most of my prereqs except the 7 general credits. I just started with the first test and kept going one by one until I finished. One thing that would keep me on track is scheduling the tests before I was actually finished studying to motivate myself to study.

With waiting lists and such, expect it to take about 2 and a half years, at least. Just keep chipping away and you'll get there.

Took me about 4-5 years to get the first 5 pre-req test done (Yeah that's probably discouraging). BUT, then decided to get it in gear. I agree with the above poster - I scheduled my tests about 4-6 weeks in advance, then was more motivated to get my studing done prior to the cut off/test date. Would schedule the next test within 48 hours of completing one. I actually made goals for testing dates on the family wall calendar ie: Jan 15th A&P, Feb 20 Ethics, etc. Put my new years resolultion on the frig.. "GRADUATE EC BY ___ DATE". My whole family, including extended family over visiting were constantly on me about when was my next test scheduled and was I still on track to graduate by target date. It worked - I just kept clicking away until I was done, right on schedule I might add! :balloons: It's been a whole year now and I am still proud of that. Good luck. It's hard but worth it.
