How long does it take to receive a license number?

U.S.A. New Jersey

I know there are threads like this but they're from a few years back and I wasn't sure if anything had changed in that time.

I took and passed my exam on February 6, 2014 and the BON had those results in the system on February 14th. I waited and waited for them to send me a fingerprinting letter, which they NEVER did so after 1 month of continuous back and forth with them, I physically went to the BON office and picked up a fingerprinting letter. (The receptionist was so sweet and printed it out immediately). I got the fingerprints done on February 27th and the BON received the results that same evening.

Basically, I am STILL waiting. Everytime I call them, they tell me something different. About five people have "sent emails to the processing department".

I have a job and I'm about to lose it if I don't get this license number soon.

Any idea on any steps I can take? How long did it take for your license to come? Anything will REALLY help me. I am freaking out right now. It's already so hard for a new grad to get a job these days and I don't want to miss out on this opportunity.

If you go back, they will have you fill out another form and you will get your number that day.

If I go back where? To the Board of Nursing?

Yes, go to the Board of Nursing and tell them you need your license number.

Ugh! I just received a letter (AFTER an entire two months of them telling me that my entire file is complete and that I just need to be patient) that I need to send in a birth certificate. I am so frustrated with them.

Why do you need to send your birth certificate? You did the online application? If I were you, I would physically take my birth certificate to the BON, give it to them and request my number. I'm telling you to do this because I've done this and I know others who have done this and we have our license numbers because of it. Once they have your fingerprints back and it's been three weeks since your test you can get your number quicker if you go there (you won't get the paper license though). If you call they will keep saying you have to wait but if you go there you will get results. I had to go to get my ATT also because it was taking way too long. Good luck!

I did the online application. I also had to call for my ATT but it's very frustrating because they are really not cooperative. I think I will do that this week because it's outrageous that it is taking this long. You just went to Halsey Street, 6th floor, correct? Did you have to ask to speak with anyone specific?

The NJ Board of Nursing is under the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs... when my license was taking too long I sent an email to the commissioner to complain and they actually called me back! Maybe you need to take your complaint to the next level. The NJ Board of Nursing is ridiculously slow and often without a reasonable explanation. With computers/technology you would think they could have letters/licenses out within a week. Good luck!

How did you complain?

My original application was Sep 14. I needed a license number for an interview today. I called yesterday morning as was told they couldn't email the "committee" until after the 14 of this month. So I drove (1.5 hrs)to the board itself. They gave me my number and I had it in time for my interview today. If it is feasible, and everything is checked off except committee approval, my suggestion is to drive up to Newark.
