How long does a nursing degree take?

Published

Ok, so I'm an 18 year old guy and I am being forced to go to a community college because my step-dad filed my fasfa too late. I'm extremely embarrassed that I have to go to a community college, because I was planning to go to this four year university in like two weeks, but they told me at the last minute that my financial aid wasn't enough. I keep reading that to be a adn takes two years, I know a BSN takes four years, because that's exactly what I was going to do, I'm planning to transfer to get my bsn after I become an RN, but how long does it take at a community college? I keep reading two years, it that with or without prerequisites because I want to transfer after one year. Thanks.

I am 20 and just graduated from community college. I got my associates in pre nursing by finishing all my required prerequisite classes. Now I am starting at a 4 year university this fall to complete my nursing classes. I will only spend two years there & then graduate with my bachelors.

Honestly, don't be embarrassed by community college. My friends and I are all traditional college students. Most of the went to 4 year schools. After the first year, many transferred back to the local community college. Community college is a great way to save money. It is also what you make of it. Work hard & try to join some clubs.

Note to OP - take responsibility for completing your own FAFSA - then ask parents to sign. Also - if they can remove you as a 'dependent' on tax return, you will be able to access more financial aid. Of course, it means that they have to take a greater hit tax-wise, but if they don't have the money to help pay for your college expenses, it is a way that they can still 'contribute'.

CC's are great! It is a very nice transitional environment from HS to Uni. Helps you ramp up to "independence" but still have parents to fall back on & provide food, shelter, laundry, etc. Enjoy it while you can!

My thoughts exactly! Personal responsibility is one of the top 5 traits of a good nurse - and might as well start now.

This. Your FAFSA is YOUR responsibility. Ask your parents for a copy of any tax information that you need.
