I was thinking and realized that I'm coming up on my 30th year of nursing. When I started we still wore dresses, hats and stockings and carried a pinned fob watch. Everything was done on paper and patients still smoked in their rooms. A lot of years have gone by but I'm still here. How long have you been a nurse?

I started my RN diploma school in August 1986 and graduated in December 1989. Took the two day paper RN licensure exam and wrote in black, green and red ink for charting.

30 years as a British 'RGN' come September, and 24 years (I think!) since I took my US NCLEX.

I intend to die in harness. Or have my consciousness uploaded into a robonurse. Either's good.

I'm sorry :( I miss the bedside and wish I could've worked longer, too!

I remember walking by a room where the doc was sitting on the patients bed and they were sharing a cigarette.

WOWWW !!!!!!!!!!

I can barely imagine doctors smoking in a lounge, or a patient puffing away in their room....but for them to SHARE one seems kinda.....intimate. I wonder if they knew eachother ?!?!

i have been a nurse for 45 years..still going strong..work parttime..keeps my mind young and my body strong..work on the 4th floor and i take the stairs to get there..try to encourage my peers to do so too!
