I just started in L&D and am wondering how long other facilities give their nurses new to the specialty for orientation. Thanks!

Are any of you coming into LD from another area of acute care? Or is it your first job?
I worked ortho before this OB experience.

Our Nurse Residency program has our New Grads in orientation for a total of 22 weeks, which includes their first week of hospital orientation and multiple dates of didactic and simulation education sessions to enhance their critical thinking and knowledge base.

All of these post are very motivating. I've been applying, applying, and applying to get my foot in the door for women's health. I will remain persistent until my time comes.Does anyone in California know of any hospitals with current L&D openings for a nurse with med surg experience?
Thank you

I'm a new grad and get 16 weeks, another experienced nurse is getting the same. We are a ldrp unit so we learn it all, I won't have to scrub or do scn initially.

When I first started in L&D I think I had about 12 weeks and remember feeling so overwhelmed. But once I was really on my own I knew more than I thought I did. It can be hard when someone else with different habits and priorities is hovering over your shoulder.
When I switched jobs I just was on orientation for a month, which was about all I needed to learn the computer systems and policies.

I had 6 months...3 on mom-baby/post partum, and 3 on L&D. We are an LDRP unit.

I am a new grad and started in L&D as a nurse in August. My residency will last 22 weeks. This is in a metro Atlanta hospital.
