How long does NRP certification last?

I won't be graduating until 2006, but I want to make myself as desirable as possible for employment in OB.

Any other certifications I should be going for? I'm in the process of accruing hours to sit for the IBCLC exam, which won't happen until 2007.

I have never heard you cannot take NRP as a non-nurse. But maybe it would be wise to wait til you are a nurse....that way the hospital where you work will pay for it. It does cost quite a bit out of pocket otherwise.

I know this topic is old, but I thought I'd put in my for future readers.

I did my senior nursing student focus on an L+D unit and signed up for the hospital based NRP class. It costs $80 since I am not employed with them, and I bought the book on Amazon for $25.

I graduate in 12 days and am very passionate about working on this LDRP unit, so even though I know they would pay for me to take the class later, I believe that having it on my resume will set me a step above other candidates.

It shows that I am dedicated to L+D/PP. I have also attended a few conferences in the area in topics such as Perinatal Mental Health.

I think showing dedication and an obvious interest in learning about the field will be pluses for when I'm applying for the job! Now all I'm hoping is that they'll have a position open shortly! :)
