How long have you been job searching?

Published

I just got my license and I have only been job searching for 3 weeks, but I'm already burn- out . I know most of you 'New Grads' have probably been job searching for almost a year or at least longer than me and I am just curious about how you stay motivated to continue searching...or maybe you gave up?

It took me 4 months to find my job and then another month before work started. I kept myself as busy as possible, went to coffee shops with my laptop for a change of scene, volunteered, read a lot. Kept in touch with classmates, cheered them on too, kept in touch with clinical instructors and asked for tips and advice and if they knew anyone who was hiring.

For about 2 weeks and I am tired. I finally talked to one person. Don't give up, a door will open.

I'm trying to knock out the job search before I take NCLEX... in essence I've been job searching since day 1 of nursing school

Does that mean you got an interview? :yeah:

That would have been ideal, but not practical here in Ca. New Grad jobs are so far and few that only those who already have an RN license will be considered and even that sometimes is not 'good enough'.

I went to school in CA, and the majority of my class had jobs before we graduated (probably at least 30 out of 40). The program you are in can have a large influence on getting a job- though it's not a guarantee, either.

What year did you graduate? Did your school have a preceptorship? I also came from a school/program that is highly spoken of and 30-40 ppl from my class don't have jobs..of course that could be due to their own lack of motivation. All points aside, it is a fact that the job market for New Grad RNs sucks and the positions that are available are receiving an overwhelming number of applicants.

I graduated in May 2010. Yes, my school did have a preceptorship (if that's the same thing as an internship/ capstone). I do agree that there are an overwhelming number of applicants to jobs for new grads. I have heard of new grad jobs in SoCal where there were 1500 applicants for 15 positions. Those who did not have jobs before graduation had a much harder time finding jobs.

It would have been nice to have a preceptorship..I am just going to stay motivated and be persistant. :bowingpur
