How long should I wait for transfer possibility?

Published

I was just told it wasn't working out in my new position. I'm a new RN. My boss said she was going to suggest to the nurse recruiter moving me to another position that would be better suited for a new RN. So I did apply internally for 4 other spots within the hospital and spoke to the recruiter accordingly. Now I'm just trying to figure out how long I should wait. Technically I am still an employee of the hospital. I don't know what if anything I can do to increase my chances of this move happening. How do I convince a new department to take a chance on me if it didn't work out on the other floor. And I don't know if I should just start applying elsewhere too. I kind of think I should. I need a paycheck and experience. Thoughts?

I would suggest asking the recruiter or your nurse manager if it would be possible to shadow on the prospective units to get a feel for them and see where you'd be a good fit. Also I always think sending a hand-written thank you card is a nice touch.

Best of luck! Let us know how things turn out!
