I have already interviewed with HR, the nursing manager, and I have also had a peer interview with the staff on the same unit I completed my clinical rotation. I am applying for the patient care technician position and I will be completely honest, I seriously thought I had the position. The RN's and PCT's repeated that I was a great student and to hire me. The challenging part was the questions from the nursing manager during that peer interview even though she stated I did well on our one on one interview. After my brief interview with the D.O.N. she stated she was going to have the nursing manager make me an offer. Moments after that, I was told by the nursing manager I would be contacted by HR, that day or no later than the next day. It has been a full week, and I haven't heard anything. On Monday, I did send a professional thank you email ensuring her of my interest, and job qualifications, and thanking them for their time.

Can anyone give me any advice? Should I call HR or the nursing manager? Is this usually a long process, or do you think I am no longer a candidate?

Please help, the suspense is killing me!

Thank you

Jodi B

Call HR. If no response in a couple of days after you call HR ( I'm assuming you'll go to voice mail) then I would call or email the nurse manager and say that on your last conversation she told you that HR would be in touch, that you reached out to HR & haven't heard back, so you're following up with her.

Good luck!

Give HR a call. Perhaps even email the manager, however usually the managers can't extend an offer of employment, that has to be done by someone in HR.

I had a similar situation for my RN job where I was a student nurse intern. I interviewed (for the unit I was an intern on) on a Tuesday. The manager said I'd hear back by Friday, or the following Monday at the latest. If I didn't hear anything, that meant I didn't get the job. I never heard anything. 2 weeks after I interviewed, and 8 days after I should've heard by the latest, I got a call from HR offering me the job. Hospitals/HR depts/Managers are slow. Don't give up hope yet!!

HR is a traffic jam.

I was offered the job in my interview by the DON, and was told I'd be contacted by HR for the official offer within 2 days because they really wanted to get me on board. Apparently I had made quite an impression during my preceptorship.

Even with the DON pushing HR, it still took 19 days for HR to produce an official offer.

There's so much red tape and financial considerations, plus HR is having to deal with MD's all the way down to the night janitors. They themselves are usually understaffed.

I'd give HR a call. Don't push them too hard, but just inquire into your offer's status. If you don't hear back in a couple days, contact your DON or nursing manager and explain your situation, along with how many days it's been. After that, just kick back and relax.
