How long to complete an admission

Good Morning,

I am wondering how long an admission takes; start to finish, paperwork and all. Would love to hear your agency expectations as well as what you personally feel is realistic.

Thanks and have a great day!:nurse:

Our agency like most of them I think counts a SOC as 2 visits. It varies SO much from SOC to SOC. It does happen occasionally that the visit is about an hour and the charting is an hour so it actually is about 2 hours. Most times the visit is 1.25-1.5 hour and the paperwork/phonecalls are another hour. A PT only SOC or a simple NSS W-> D dressing on a young person with no other health issues - the visit and paperwork are fairly quick and straight-forward. WHen you have an elderly person that lives alone, poor insurance, a multitide of health problems...the visit itself could be 2 hours.

I feel that I am fairly quick at performing my job, paperwork included. A SOC being 2 visits is ok for me most of the time...there are times where it should be 2.5 to 3...but then again it is would be nonproductive to do so. Our agency tries not to have anyone doing more than 1 SOC a day, the most I've done is 2 in a day...so that really helps as well.

Agree.. a SOC takes an average of 1 and one half hours. The paperwork involved later gets quicker once you become used to it.. routine. It takes a few mos. before you get that little routine down. :)

My first admission alone took me 2.5 hrs in the home and another 3 hrs. finishing up at home. We get paid a flat rate, no difference for admissions. I have to agree, practice really helps. The OASIS is so foreign at first, but again, practice helps. I can do an admission in much less time now. Perserverance pays off.

In our facility it depends on IF you have enough help on the floor so you can get busy...

Usually, if the day is going well, about 1.5 hrs.

If you are short staffed or things start going haywire (as they will sometimes), it can take a full day. LOL!

For us it takes 5 hours with all that we have to do. 1 hour for the accessment of the pt and about 45 min. for Oasis. Then all the other stuff we have to do the 485, fall accessment, hospital accessment, dx list. Oh and we get paid for 3 hours. None of the other 7 Nurses here can get it done any sooner either. We only have Compubar for our chart notes and 485 which really slows us down. We have been discussing with our administration and have a commitee to reduce the paperwork but it has not changed any. They are not really interested in changing it.:angryfire
