How do you leave a job after becoming so attatched to the residents?

Published

I really, really need advice. I've been a CNA for 5 years at a long term care facility. I drive 40 miles to work. Well, gas is getting higher, and I really want to get a job in my home town (-1 mile). I'll be taking my major nursing classes next semester and the time I spend driving, I can be studying. Well, I love my residents, everytime I make my mind up I change it again. I feel guilty, I know I'm a good CNA and I know they will be losing a good one. Also, I love my supervisor-how many jobs you gonna find like that? She will be so dissapointed-she has no idea how I feel--What would you do??

Obviously, you can't be in two places at once. Life changes are going to happen, whether you schedule them or not.

You seem to be a wonderful, caring aide who's made some lifetime friends at that facility.

Why not schedule a visiting day once every couple of weeks, and then you can enjoy your buds as a visitor, rather than a caregiver?
