How do I find out if a HH is creditable

Am thinking of getting into HH. I am a fairly new nurse with only 2 1/2 years experience in behavioral health hospital setting. There are multiple HH companies in my area and I don't want to get into one that does not have a good reputation. There are companies that have websites that sound promising and some don't. Do I check with the BBB? I am new to this area and don't know anyone outside of behavioral health. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

pick one that has been around for a while (at least 2 or 3 years at the min) with the same owner. I would tell you to stay away from HH's that seem disorganized from the start, but honestly, most of them are. you need to know the right questions to ask during your interview, such as how many visits you're expected to do and how much travel. and get your pay straight also. there are plenty threads on that info on here.

Look in home care section to review agencies.

Ask to shadow a nurse after your interview, ask the nurse what they do and don't like about the job.

Thank you all for the info! Not sure how I would contact a bank about their financials. Is that public information? I guess it would be. I have read the threads on home health care and have gotten ideas on questions to ask. This website is amazing for all the info and thanks again for the advice!

sorry, I mentioned the bank..without an explanation..the HH I work part time for paid us with hot checks this past week. not happy.

Look at Home Health Compare scores on line. Every home health agency that takes medicare dollars and fills out OASIS data on their patients has a Home Health Compare score. They are rated against other Home Health agencies in that specific area and agencies across the nation. A good way to tell if the company is doing what they are supposed to be doing is looking at how they rank aganist others in HH Compare.
