How does hourly vs per visit work out?

Hello to all. I am currently being quite picky about the numerous agencies I am contacting around town. I have resigned and left my current hospital job due to not being able to get off the 11p-7a shift and was severely hurting my health. Now I inquire with some outfits and I know that you are either hourly or per visit with some mileage thrown in there. In your experienced opinion, what do you prefer, or think actually works out the best for you?

I work hourly because I do shift care. I prefer this because I know where I stand as far as my schedule and paycheck go. With per visit, there are numerous ways that the employee can (and usually does) get stiffed, beginning with the "per visit" rate itself.

I have worked both ways. With hourly, I had to do all of my charting and after pt work (ie; insurance calls, Dr calls, checking on labs etc) in the office, if I wanted to be paid for the time.

With pay per visit The visit rate was calculated to be about 1 1/2hrs. The after pt work is considered to be part of the visit.

In both instances I got mileage pay as well.

The disadvantage of pay per visit is your paycheck will be different every time.

I prefer pay per visit.

Salary is good too, but only if you get paid extra if you go over your quota of weekly visits. (Otherwise you will get told 25-27 visits and than be given 30 with no extra compensation)

I am full time. I do 6 visits/day & I make a little over $200/day. The per diem RN, doing the same 6 visits would make $50/visit = $300/day. But, I get PTO and I get the same if I do 4 visits or 7 so I think it all works out in the end.
