How hard is it to get in?

Specialties CRNA

Sorry, for the silly question. I bet this question has been asked in the past, but I just wanted to know how hard is it to get accepted into a Nurse Anesthetist program? I certainly know that the program is very intensive and demanding, but what I really want to know is how competitive it is to get in? We all know that Nursing programs (ADN and BSN) are becoming harder and harder to get into. I just got accepted to begin in August of 2005 and it wasn't easy to get in. At my school, there were 980 applications and only 70 vacancies, I was very fourtunate.

Thanks!!

my class average is around 3-4 years. i had one when i was accepted and a little less than two when we started. it can be done. try looking outside michigan too. there are lots of great schools in OH and IL.

i believe that as long as you know what exactly crna programs are looking for in an applicant, the chances of getting in definitely increases. please don't apply just because or if you haven't even fulfilled the prerequisites;you need all of them! (you'll just be wasting time, paper, & esp. money in fees!)

i think i was extremely lucky, cuz i got into a program after applying for the 1st time, but that doesn't mean i didn't work for it. i knew what that particular schools wanted, & i did those things to accomplish them (eg. biochem & statistics prerequisite, adequate gre, work experience) i even went to each school & spoke with the program director & asked if i could improve my application (so they can also attach a face w/ an application when it comes time for admissions to review it). overall, it took some time but it was worth it! (i'm starting this fall  )

you can also do several things at the same time: while you get your icu experience, get your bsn & take those prerequisites & take the gre..

don't ever give up also!! :)

I was asking the same questons 10 months ago, but really, there are no clear-cut answers. You have no idea how "hard" it will be for YOU until you send in those apps and show up all nervous in your new suit for your interviews. It depends on the school, your qualifications (and there are so many variables - GPA, GRE, certs, experience, etc etc) and the phase of the moon. Just do everything you can manage to be a better candidate, apply, and cross your fingers.

I can't say how hard it is to get into a CRNA program off hand. but I do know in my metropolitan area there are AT LEAST:

5 BSN programs

8 ADN programs

12 LVN programs

and they are all highly competitive and hard to get into. they take anywhere from 30 to 150 students a semester/quarter/year (depending on how often they take new applications). each student feels extremely lucky to get an offer. now, there are only 2 CRNA programs in my area... and each accepts only 12-13 students a year.

you do the math.
