I am just wondering, I'm a college student in Florida I wanted to apply to NYU for spring 2012. I have been reading in places that the admissions essay is quite important. I did well on my nursing pre requisites, but I messed up on my other pre requisites and because of that I am scared I wont get in. Also can I get some feedback on my essay. I went to the middle east this past summer and was at the wrong place at the wrong time. A protest broke out in Israel/Palestine when I was in one of the check points, people ended up getting shot and hurt. For the first time I felt useless and I never want to feel like that again. I need nursing to help me over come that and help make a difference in someones life. If i was a nurse I would of known how to help those victims but I didnt, and its a huge regret of mine....that's basically my essay and why I need to become a nurse. Is that okay for a admissions essay?
Thank you.

In general, not that hard at all. The way it works in NYC nursing schools (maybe in other cities as well), the more expensive the program, the easier it is to get in. If you apply to a low-cost, publicly funded program like BMCC or Downstate, it is difficult to get in. However, some find it worth paying the high cost for a high-quality program.

That is not necessarily true. The larger the school, the more seats available. In general, there are a limited number of seats in most nursing programs. The accelerated nursing program in the college of new rochelle (which is a private school around 25,000/semester) has 8 seats. Downstate accepts 45-50 ppl per term. NYU is a big school, the incoming class has around 200 students out of the thousands that apply. So while you may have better luck with an expensive school because ppl tend to flock to those first, there is still limited space in most programs due to space, nursing faculty and hospital availibilty for clinical rotations.
