How hard is it to get in nursing school to become a RN?

Should I even try to become a RN?

I am hearing that the bare minimum GPA needed to get into a nursing school to get an ADN/BSN is about 3.7. Getting a "B" in any prerequsite will pretty much guarantee that you won't be accepted anywhere in a 4,000 mile radius. As for the fortunate students who somehow got a high GPA, they need to wait a good 2-3 years before getting a single one and only phone call to get admitted in nursing school. Miss that one phone call because of a bad cell phone battery then you need to get back in line and go wait another 2-3 years (or 4 years) to get in.

After miraculously becoming a RN with a ADN *only* 7 years after you took your first prerequisites you try to get a job with the requirement of you being a RN or LVN/LPN in a 100 mile radius and don't get a single call back for months. If you do win the powerball by landing a job then you will enjoy a nice paycheck to pay back your 100k student loan after getting spit on, yelled at by everyone, doing double/triple shifts, and trying real hard to hold your excrement for hours because the call light(s) keep going off so you need to be in 5-10 places at once.

Yes, it is hard to get into nursing school. It is competitive and you have to do well in your classes. It is that way for lots of well paying, dignified professions. Those who have it in them make it and those who don't....don't.

As for jobs, there are areas in the country that are more difficult than others. :shrug:

It is worth it to many of us to pursue this. I can't tell if you are wanting to be a nurse and frustrated or poking fun at those of us who have dedicated our current lives to making this happen for ourselves. Either way, I hope you find what you are looking for. As my dear old grandmother used to say, nothing worth having comes easily.

A 3.7 isn't THAT hard to get and there's accelerated programs that allow you to become a nurse sooner. Myself, I'm going the LVN - RN route. That seems to be the quickest. Once you become an RN, the possibilities really open up. It's a very good paying career, also rewarding. I don't know why you're trying to put it out but I can understand why you're being a bit cynical over the whole thing.

Sure, it's hard, but anything worth doing is a challenge. Like I tell people when they say that I make pottery look easy--if it was easy, everyone would be doing it! Same thing with nursing.

I hold my excrement for days, and I'm yelled at by everyone. I also get up at 4 a.m to do the hour drive through backed up freeways, thick smog, fires, snow and rain.

I couldn't work at this job if I only have an A.D. I need it a B.A. plus two years of credential program courses.

I never khow where,or if I'll have a job every September. If I do get a job in September, I need to have stimulating lesson plans everyday of the year, or I will lose my class. Every class is +35 students. Every day, I get 5 classes.

I need to have homework ready, grade papers, enter grades, duplicate papers, parent conferences, open house, and deal with their behavior. Do you think my work is over at 3 p.m? that's when day pay ends.

Every morning a teacher should have an objective agenda on the board and updated student work on the walls.

Not all schools require high GPA's at my school they did not have alot of people apply and I got into BSN program with a 2.86 I was very affraid because I first stated taking pre reqs 2002. Now, I am very excited to do what love and take care of people. I have been in the medical field since I was 18. I hope you get in to where ever you apply.
