How to Go through the Saunder's Book to Prepare for NCLEX-RN???

Published

I have been going through saunders for about a week and find its taking me so long to read through all the chapters. I do the quizzes prior to the chapter and then if I get below a 75% I read through the content, if higher I just skim it. But most of the time I've gotten a 75 or lower (except the math got a 100% :D ). I am considering from now on just going through each chapter and writing down all the red exclamation points in a notebook, and reviewing the charts in the chapters. Does anyone have any tips to go through saunders quicker? I need the content review but I am also practicing questions with laCharity and will be starting kaplan question bank, so I don't want to have to spend more than an hour and a half studying the content per day.

I can only spend about 3 hours a day studying due to work plus the fact I'm bored after an hour or so of studying (anyone else have this issue???? lol). If I study an hour and a half content, I plan to spend the other hour and a half studying questions/taking them. Let me know if you think my idea above is a good idea or any other tips to make content review quicker but still quality time spent.

Thanks! (P.S. I have exactly 1 month til NCLEX)

You are wasting your time reading content! You may not even be tested on material you will read. Just do 75 questions a day for a month and review rationales of your wrong answers. Use the CD or online access to generate 75-question exams. It takes about 2 hours a day to do this kind of review. I did about 3,000 questions before I sat for the NCLEX. You will get used to questions the more you do them.

This is what I did and I passed the real exam with 75 questions. And by the way, I never scored more than 70% on any of my practice tests.

This is not rocket science, it's called practice. Sounds to me like you are more ready than you think. Stop stressing and just do practice questions!

Btw, I never took a review course either.

Awesome I never thought about the fact I may not even be getting questions on all the material. Thank you!! I just purchased the kaplan q bank and have the online access for saunders. I'm going to do like 100Qs or so a day and review them like you said. I can't imagine some of the people on here who say they studied 5-7 hours a day.... I don't have time for that lol. 2 or 3 hours is more my speed. However, I think i will still go through saunders to make a study guide of all the major points they have in each chapter (only like 10 or so per chapter) it could help me study the last few days before the test.

5 to 7 hours a day? That is totally unnecessary. I never studied more than that in a night in nursing school! Why do that now? You have a good plan, stick to it. Get your hands on as many questions as you can.

Oh and day before the test, NO QUESTIONS AT ALL. Go watch a movie and sleep early.

You can thank me later when you come back to announce you passed :)
