Hello everybody! I'm in need of some assistance. I am 25 years old and I've recently been thinking of going into the Nursing Field. I've stumbled onto this wonderful site which I've been reading for days on end!! Anyway, I've seen some members advise other posters to shadow a nurse for a day, few hours, ect if they want to get a better understanding of the job. I thought this was a great idea, but can anybody tell me how I can go about doing this? Is this a common request in hospitals or doctors offices? Should I know what area I would like to shadow in? Honestly, any area would be fine with me as long as I'm not bothering anybody.
I was thinking of emailing/calling the HR dept. at the nearest hospital(Palisades General, North Bergen) and requesting to shadow for a few hours. Is this not the right way to do this?
I don't know any nurses, so any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance

I am in the same situation. I called a hospital in my area and they have a shadowing program. I have to complete the one page application and send it in. I think they will tell me what area I'm going to shadow in. (My first choice is L&D, but I don't think it's up to me.) I also have to get a physical and some shots, which I have to do anyway before I start my clinicals for nursing assistant class. I plan on sending in the application after I get my physical.
I hope this helps.
Thanks!! I'll do that today.
