  1. Thanks for your help!
  2. Thank you for your input.
  3. Thank both of you for your response. This information is a huge help. I am right outside of Milwaukee, WI and am dreading doing the presentation. Everyone paired up with another person, so at least you wouldn't be up there all by yourself. The person I paired up with dropped the class so now I have to do it alone. Oh well..... I guess everyone is in the same boat. Thanks again for your help.
  4. Hello. I am currently in my CNA course and we have to do a 10 -15 minute presentation on caring for persons with common health problems. The subject I chose is multiple sclerosis. One of the things I have to talk about is nursing assistant considerations when caring for persons afflicted with the disease. Any information on this would be GREATLY appreciated! :wink2: Thanks!
  5. thank you for your insight. it really helps.
  6. To godsend213... What's the deal with your reply? Why do I care how I am treated? Hmmm.... let's see... Maybe it's because I don't want to go to work 3 days a week for 12 hours at a time and be treated like crap by my co-workers. I don't think it is out of line to try to assess (that means evaluate, in case you don't have your dictionary handy) the work environment that I may be working in. And no. It it not my biggest concern, but it is a valid one, and others belonging to this forum obviously thought so seeing as they took the time to provide their thoughts, insights and experiences. Don't bother replying to my posts unless you have something constructive to say. Otherwise it is a waste of my time to read and send a reply. I'm not saying everyone has to agree with me. I can handle criticism, as long as it's constructive.
  7. Thanks for your reply. That's what I was afraid of.
  8. I am in the same situation. I called a hospital in my area and they have a shadowing program. I have to complete the one page application and send it in. I think they will tell me what area I'm going to shadow in. (My first choice is L&D, but I don't think it's up to me.) I also have to get a physical and some shots, which I have to do anyway before I start my clinicals for nursing assistant class. I plan on sending in the application after I get my physical. I hope this helps.
  9. I live in the Brookfield area and I'm going to WCTC. This will definitely be part time. I'm taking CNA course this fall and I don't plan on taking my prereqs until 2009! I'll be 50 by the time I get out of school!! What is your work schedule like? Do you work 3 12s? Are your kids old enough to watch themselves? My kids will still need a nanny by the time I start working I think. I'm beginning to wonder if it will be worth it. Thanks for your help.
  10. Hi Jay, Thanks so much for your input. Yes, there is a spouse to pay bills and we are actually doing ok living off of one salary, but I've really been drawn to the nursing field lately and it's something I want to do. I didn't mean to say I don't want to work ANY weekends, just not only on the weekends. Besides, I don't think my husband would be agreeable to watching our kids every weekend. He's supportive of me going back to school, but I know him and I just don't think he'd be willing to watch them every weekend, all weekend long (even though I watch them all week long). I'm sure I'll figure the whole schedule think out. Thanks again for your help. And your right.... this WI thread moves so slow. I've posted a prior message and no one ever responded.
  11. Hello. I am thinking about nursing school and was wondering how it is working as a nurse while juggling a family? I have 3 kids who will all be in elementary school by the time I'm out of school. I don't want them in afterschool care all week and was wondering how others manage a family. I would rather not work the weekends either. Any advise you can give would be really helpful. (I'm taking my nursing assistant class this fall and plan on working as a aid for a few years first. Hopefully this is a good starting point.)
  12. Thanks to everyone for their insight!
  13. Hello. I am considering attending school to become an LPN. Once on the job, how do RNs treat you? I am afraid they would look down on LPNs and give them all their extra work to do. Is this a correct assumption? Also, where do most LPNs work? Nursing homes? Hospitals? Any information would be great appreciated.
  14. Everyone - Thanks for your suggestions! I will make flashcards and study one of the A&P coloring books.
  15. Thanks for the info!
