How to get into mother baby specialty after being at home?

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hi! I’m looking for some guidance..I’ve been at home for several years with my kids but am itching to return to nursing. Greenville tech has a highly regarded nurse refresher that I’m looking to enroll in. Prior to being home, I worked in ortho/med surg and mental health. I had no interest in women’s health out of school mainly because I was pushed to do med surg. Now that I’ve had my own children, and experienced wonderful nurses in the unit caring for me, I would like to enter that field. I know it’s so competitive. My question is after I take the refresher, do I return to ortho and try to internally transfer to post partum after a year? Or would it crazy for me to apply to some OB positions?

No, it would not be crazy to apply. If you don't apply, you won't get hired.

Go for what you want. Apply to only OB positions! Good luck ?

I have experience in other areas and have been trying to get into L&D, PP, or NICU for many years. Similar boat, decided this after I had my own children. I have found all of these really hard to break into. I know for a fact these hospitals have hired new grads. I suspect my years of experience works against me, that they don't want to hire someone 40 and not 22.
