Hello!
I am a May 2017 BSN graduate who is currently looking for her first job in NYC.
I passed my NCLEX in July, and I have been applying to jobs ever since and I have not even had a single interview I've applied to at least 30 positions, in NYC and surrounding areas (Long Island, Westchester, NJ).
I feel like I am not getting calls because of maybe my GPA (3.2) or because I have no "in" with the hospital.
Is there any advice on how to move my resume to the top of the pile? Obviously at this point I cannot change my GPA, but maybe I can somehow get affiliated with hospitals? Would volunteering at a hospital or becoming a nursing assistant be a good way to get an "in"?

not sure if you are doing this but remove your GPA from your resume. in my opinion someone with a 4.0 GPA isn't necessarily going to be a better nurse than someone with a 3.2. also include prior work experience especially if you had some kind of management or supervisor role in any capacity. another idea is maybe look at hospitals in long island or new jersey. i work in new jersey and almost every hospital is hiring and most if not all hire new grads. good luck!

Have you had your resume looked over by a professional?
Yes I have! I have had my university career center look over my resume as well as my professors, and they all said it was very good and professional.
I don't think what my resume looks like or what it says is necessarily the issue, it may be what experiences I didn't have that may be the issue?

You really haven't been looking for a job that long. Hang in there. It can take a few months to get your first job.
You might want to consider different areas than NY metro. Do some research on where nurses are in demand.
If you know an RN, have them look at your resume as well. It is good to have a few different opinions.
Good luck.
