How do you get certified as a school nurse in Massachusetts?

Published

I would like to work as a school nurse but all the job postings state that you have to be certified. How do I get certified as a school nurse in MA?

I am currently working in a residential behavorial treatment center for children from 8 - 18 years old.

Specializes in med-surg, MICU/SICU, Csurg ICU, HH.

One of my co-workers just did this...

You have to sit for the State teacher's exam.

you also have to have 3 years experience and a bsn.

I have my BSN and I am currently working in a residential setting that includes school for youth with behavorial problems. How do I find out if that counts toward experience? It is confusing because if you are not certified you cant get hired but if you are getting school experience you cant sit for the exam??

I would think your experience would be perfect. If you read the web site, you will see you have a grace period to get the certificate. I would apply especially now , if they are looking for a nurse after school started they are in a bind. Good Luck.

i am thinking of eventually being a school nurse....hopefully by then they will be paid as high as teachers! i am not even a nurse yet, so i think i have time! where are you working w/children? (if you don't mind me asking) i'll be out of school in a year and a half of so, and will be looking for experience such as yours. i know you need 3 years of experience before working in the public schools. do you enjoy the facility you are at?

thanks!
