How does everyone else survive while you go to school?

I'm jumping ahead of myself, but I like to have everything taken care of beforehand. I'm taking the Hesi in October and my prerecs will be done by the end of this semester. My student loan is in place, and if I'm accepted, I will have to quit working when I start the Nursing program for the next two years. My husband luckily has a very good job, but the money I make is very helpful too. How did/does everyone else handle the no job issue in their households? I go to school in Leesburg, Fl. at Lake Sumter State College. I'm excited about all the things coming together, but there's always the "no job" thing that I just can't get over.

Specializes in ICU.

No, they won't penalize you. They reccommend not working in my program also but we have many people who do work. My lab partner is a tech at one of the hospitals. She works 2 nights a week and they are paying for some of her schooling. We have several people who are techs and CNAs.

Our program recommends that we don't work, and if we do to keep it under 20 hours a week. They won't penalize people who work more than that, though.

I don't work, so to save money I make cheap meals ($2-$3) in the crockpot every night and my husband and I divide the leftovers up for lunch the next day. We have tracfones that we buy minutes for once a year, so we have no monthly cell phone bills to worry about. Every little bit helps.

They won't penalize you they just want to be sure that nursing school is your #1 priority. And if you have to work they just want you to know it will be hard to balance life, work and school. But if you want it bad enough you'll make it work. I just keep telling my husband that it's a finite amount of time and it will all pay off in the end!! Good luck!!
