I want to be a travel nurse. Advise?
I have been in touch with Aureus staffing ever since I graduated almost a year, letting them know how my experience was going (I have been in Ortho/MegSurge for the past two years, one as a nurse tech and one as a RN) and was recently told that the travel market was saturated with nurses and jobs were getting harder to find. Well, there is no shortage at the local hospital I work at, and it is our slow season right now so we have no travelers here, but the snowbirds always come back. Aureus still wants me to become one of their travellers, but to start thinking about where I wanted to travel and they would research what employers are looking for. I'm not in a rush but is Travel nursing a pipe dream? I live in Florida, we just bought our house here, and travelling is something I wish to do to help pay it off. Any recruiters out there let me know what you suggest to make myself a better candidate.

First day as an official RN: Reflection
it has been my first day at work as a solo nurse myself Christmas day, which wasn't bad, but the day after was horrible. All the surgeries had been on hold for the Christmas weekend and so Tuesday was a nightmare. I was being nurse, tech, and "fireman" as tempers were high with family members and patients who had to stay with us over the weekend and who wanted to be sent home. Today is day three, my Friday, and I look forward to sleeping in tomorrow. It's tough, hang in there. But wow, 8 patients? that is a heavy workload, we have six on the Med/Surg floor.

Do you consider it helpful or not to be given a Pt’s attitude during a report?
I find it helpful. I actually find the patient is the complete opposite or there is something much deeper going on that "patient is an oddball'. Sometimes they are characters like me XD

My first day as an RN
It was a great first day. It was like putting on my clinical hat and doing in-depth patient assessments in school all over again :) We have switched from McKesson to Cerner so I need to go to orientation for that as I only got CNA training on Cerner but with my first few days shadowing, it isn't too bad!

My first day as an RN
Hello Allnurses! Today is the day I have been working towards for a very long time. I graduated in May, took my NCLEX August 23rd, got my license in the mail and my hospital offered me an RN position. So I have been a CNA for 4 years, a nurse tech for the last year and three months, and man, today I get to nurse. I have an excellent nurse to work with who graciously offered to proctor me and I love the surgical floor I work on. I have met some great people here and am looking forward to the next year. Hope my positive vibes help some others out there with first day jitters! :)

Sweet, Honey
I would rather Sweetie and Honey than the alternative of that spectrum. but seriously, I am a northerner in the South, and it happens a lot. I guess after a while it just becomes the norm.

So what's going to happen to health care now?
This was the best post I have ever read. I laughed so hard about that turkey sandwich, the costs some of these street urchins rack up though, oh mylanta..

Am I too old to start this?
42 and on my final stretch in nursing school. You can do anything you want to. Don't let anyone decide your fate for you

Veteran's Day 2016 - A Salute to Military Nurses
I served the US Army from 92-94 as a turbine generator mechanic. Didn't become a medical professional until recently. I adore my fellow veterans and easily relate to them when I have them as patients. Often when people realize that I'm a veteran and thank me for my service, I don't know know what to say. To me it was serving my country and seeing the world. To my patients it was war, sacrifice, and pain for years afterwards. I salute my fellow veterans and continue to provide the very best care that I can for them. Thank you, my fellow nurses, veterans, for your service. And you are welcome for mine.

Are nurse's all that and a bag of chips?
or they ask for you to look at their rash or what could this pain be? I tell them I ain't a doc... not even a nurse yet, just a nurse tech :)

Going Back at 40 years old...
Good for you! I started college courses back in 2012 at 36 years old and was paying cash for them as I worked my way out of retail and into healthcare. I got a job as a CNA, and continued plugging away at prereqs until finally, I go that amazing letter telling me I was accepted. It was a dream come true that I had avoided for several years because of a math allergy of all things...now I wish most of the test questions I get are dosage calculations because I love math! It is a great thing to be going to school, even at 41. I am not the oldest in the class, which was a fear of mine, but I see an amazing group of supportive, loving, and caring classmates who genuinely care for each other at LSSC!

My first job in my new career
Hello everyone! I wanted to share my excitement in my new job! I am a new Nurse Tech I at the local city hospital, 7p-7a, a limit of 24 hours a week because I am still a student. I've been a CNA for three years with a home service provider so it is a new and radical shift change, but man, the pay is so much better. And, I get lovely hospital experience for school, which hopefully will make practicum so much easier next spring! So, I don't have a question for the forum at all, I read waaaaaaay more than I ask questions and I love Allnurses for all the good things and bad things I read, it is a excellent sampling of the mainstream thought of all nurses everywhere and in every field. I just wanted to share a high point in my budding new career

Female vs male patients
My two cents? I'm still a fledgling student nurse tech, but I have had plenty of salty (and sweet, for that matter) men and women patients. I prefer the patients who can ambulate. This thread is a pretty good thread, OP asked a question that has went through most of our minds, and the AN site is a great way to let off steam. I appreciate the chance to read others' opinions.
