I applied for the CA state board and passed the nclex last jan. My problem is i'm not pretty sure if i can obtain SSN for my license within 3 years time since i'm still here in the Phil., i have no employer yet, and with the retrogression going on. So, im thinking of having it apply for endorsement in other state. In the first place, is it possible for me to do that even i only have the notice of passing? help pls?! :o

I am moving this thread to the International Forum as it deals with working in the US and is not specific to nurses in the Philippines.

Now to your question. You have passed the NCLEX exam, but you do not have a license in CA. A license will not be issued to you until you provide them with a SSN#. Passing NCLEX does not automatically give you a license, that is only one step in the process.

If you wish to work in another state, you will need to apply for License by Examination, and then have CA BRN forward the passing result to the new state. You are unable to endorse as you do not hold a license in CA.

You will need to meet what ever the requirements are for initial licensure in the new state.

thanx ms. suzanne! But if i will apply to other states by License by Examination, does is it mean that i have to start from step 1 again?(submitting application, finger printing, license verification, CES, TOR.. etc.) or can i just request the CA-BRN to forward my documents together with the passing result. i hope i'm making sense, im just confused... i really appreciate your advice!

Yes, you do as you do not have a license to endorse. But for any state you would still need to go thru some type of process. And you still need to meet the requirements from the new state. Most require the CES from CGFNS. You will need to check out the requirements for the new state.

You need to submit everything, CA can only submit your passing score on the NCLEX exam, nothing more.

hi miss suzanne, id like to ask about what you said

"If you wish to work in another state, you will need to apply for License by Examination, and then have CA BRN forward the passing result to the new state. You are unable to endorse as you do not hold a license in CA".

i just like to clarify about the part you will need to apply for license by Examination specifically. Does it mean im not literally taking the exam but its like applying for the first time in a particular state, then all i have to do is ask/request CA BRN to send the notice that i passed Nclex to the state im applying now?? Do I make sense here...hope you understand my point.. im one of those unable to provide SSN since im still here in the philippines.

Can you please give me a tip to which states are desirable to apply which do not need SSN to acquire license?? Thank you so much, hope to hear from you...

This is a very old thread and there are many current threads discussing this. Basically you have to license no endorse and each state has their own requirements so a lot will depend on the state

Hello Ms. Suzanne,

I know this post is too old but can I still apply for License by Examination? What state do you think will allow me to get a license? I want a license just to show the nursing registration to immigrate to another country. I dont intend to work here at all. Please help
