Just getting ready to start preparing for the NCLEX and I'm wondering how close it is to the questions seen in EC exams. After taking 10 EC exams over the past year I feel like I really have a good understanding of how to answer questions, just not sure where I need to focus as far as content. Also, what resources do you reccomend? I have no idea where to start with this!! I don't want to spend a ton of money preparing if I don't need to. Thanks!

I would not compare them. They are not written for the same purpose. Just get a review book and go over it well if you feel like you are already knowledgeable. Not necessary to invest a lot. For that matter, if a person wanted to do a lot of work, they could read the texts they already own and not spend any money on review for the NCLEX.

To me, the NCLEX felt like another EC exam. Seriously! :) I recommend doing lots of practice questions and using some kind of review book, be it Saunders or Kaplan or whatever. I liked the NCLEX 3500 CD-ROM; there is an updated version, the NCLEX 4000, that you can buy used on amazon for not much money. Also, you should visit the NCLEX forum on allnurses: NCLEX Discussion Forum - Nursing for Nurses
Good luck, Meg!! :)

For my LPN program, they encouraged us to have completed between 3-5000 NCLEX style questions before boards. I did about 3000 and felt pretty good about what I was getting into. That's my plan in a few weeks, after I come home from CPNE...I've been using Saunder's NCLEX review for exams already, so that's what I'm going to stick with. I like the format and it has the book and disc, so there's lots of different ways to practice.
