How Do Moms Do It?

Published

How do moms seem to balance work and children? I work w/e nights, but I am growing very tired of it. I hate working EVERY Friday night! I feel like I miss stuff on the weekends (especially Saturdays) because I am either asleep or at work.

Although, I do love being home for my son after school during the week.

I do the 3 eights on the weekend because I need benefits and it pays as if you work 36 hours. I know it doesn't sound bad, but believe me, EVERY Friday night gets old in a hurry.

Moms, how do you do it? What type of schdule works for you?

I went away from full-time direct care nursing in 2005. First to quality improvement and currently a clinical educator, M-F, no weekends, holidays, normally 8-4:30 in a clinic setting. Salary position. Flexible. Perfect job for me and my family.

That Guy I'm married to helps out a lot.

Not that he's able to Do Stuff the way I'd Like It Done, but hey, you have to let some things go. Seriously, if you are married or even divorced with a halfway decent relationship with the baby-daddy, you have to Give Up Control. Even when you are working 3-twelve hour shifts in a row you can delegate things that will keep the house running some what smoothly in your absence. You just have to let him do things his way, and call it good.

I am casual but work 2-3 12 hour shifts a week... I bust my butt on my days off to get all the laundry, cleaning and running around that I have. I tried to work 8-5 5 days a week and did not like that at all... I like my days off during the week... My days that I work, I work and that is pretty much it; they have to understand, there is no choice in the matter. It is a balancing act for sure and we feel that we are not giving 100% to everyone, but who honestly could?
