hi all
i've been a short-term substitute for a school nurse who was out on medical leave for two full months. i am trying to get my first hospital job, and am trying to tweak my resume so that it looks good despite having no acute care experience. can anyone here offer some ideas for my little blurb?
here's what i have:
"worked as school nurse for approximately 500 students in preschool through eighth grade. assessed and performed first aid on injured or sick students. communicated with parents and staff as appropriate regarding student health. performed hearing and vision screenings. administered scheduled and prn medications. maintained confidential medical records. educated students and staff regarding illnesses of concern."
its kind of long, but there's not much else on my resume lol ... gotta work with what i have.
thanks.

You may want to re word your resume a bit. For example, you do assess a sick child, you don't normally perform first aid on a sick child,. Also, I would just list school nurse, xxx elementary then write responsibilities included..... attending to the students physical and emotional needs, communicating with parents and faculty, performing health screenings, maintaining health records (I would leave out the word confidential, this is a given), administering first aid as needed etc. Instead of educating students and staff, you could say health teaching. If your resume is too wordy, you may get passed over. This is just my 2 cents, I hope it is helpful

i boil it down to a few bullet points - first - what we all do every day:
responsible for heath and well-being of students, maintenance of health records, and completion of mandatory screenings and state documentation
then add a bullet point or two to get across a few finer points like which student populations i have worked with or interesting programs i've instituted.
Thank you for your input! I actually just got a phone call for an interview tomorrow (YAY!!!), but I will edit my resume to take with me.
Thanks!!
